PUJ Obstruction
Pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction is a blockage where the kidney pelvis meets the ureter. It can impair drainage and lead to pain, infection, or reduced kidney function. It may be present from birth or develop later from scar tissue or crossing vessels. Diagnosis relies on imaging and drainage studies that show delayed emptying from the kidney.
When treatment is needed, laparoscopic pyeloplasty reconstructs the junction to restore flow. In selected cases, ureteroscopy with balloon dilation may be considered. The goal is durable drainage while protecting kidney function.
